In 2004, Michael Riady joined the Lippo Group, a multi billion diversified Asian based conglomerate through PT. Lippo Karawaci, Tbk. and Overseas Union Enterprise (OUE). In late 2013, Riady co-founded BlackSteel Group, his entrepreneurship venture. Currently, Riady serves in various positions within the Lippo organization, primarily Real Estate in the United States of America and Indonesia while concurrently building BlackSteel Group. Riady has extensive experience in real estate design and development, operations and corporate finance.
Riady previously served three years as the CEO of Lippo Malls Indonesia and Director of Kemang Village, a US$1 billion mixed-use development. He was the CEO of The St. Moritz, an eleven million square feet US$1.2 billion mixed-use development in Jakarta, Indonesia since 2007. Today, Riady remain a Board Director at Lippo Malls Indonesia, Indonesia’s largest owner with 42 operating malls and over 25 in the pipeline.
Riady has sold over 1,000 units of residential condos worth US$300m since 2008 and developed Indonesia’s largest shopping mall of 4.5 million square feet among others. Riady was actively involved in a global road show that raised US$250m in equity for the company in 2009. Riady consistently ranked as one of the Top Sales CEO performer for the whole company between 2008 to 2012.
In late 2013, Riady co-founded and became the CEO of the BlackSteel Group, a fast growing start up firm focusing on Indonesian commercial real estate, primarily shopping malls. Since the inception, BlackSteel has acquired two operating shopping malls and secured four Greenfield developments.
Riady spearheaded the group’s return to the United States of America in 2010. Riady serves as the Country Managing Director of Lippo North America through Overseas Union Enterprise (OUE), which oversees all the group’s activities in America. Recently, Riady sourced and led the team to the sole acquisition of California’s tallest iconic US Bank Tower in Bunker Hill, Downtown Los Angeles. Riady is also the Managing Director of Lippo Energy, which has direct interests in a Copper and Gold mine operation in Utah.

Received Asia Society’s “Young Leaders under 40” award in Malaysia. Riady has appeared at various publications including Investor and Fortune Magazine - Indonesia edition. Riady sits on the Founding Board of UCLA’s Ziman Center of Real Estate and UCLA Center for Global Management since summer 2013.
Graduated Bachelors degree in Business Administration from California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) followed by an Executive MBA dual degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Anderson School of Management and National University of Singapore (NUS).
